(hélas il n'existe pas en version papier pour ce chemin)Celui ci n'est pas très lisible, les cartes présentées ne sont pas assez schématiques pour avoir une vision d'ensemble de l'étape....pas de repères entre les différents tronçons...Je ne recommande pas cet ouvrage que j'ai d'ailleurs retouné
I hiked the del Norte, Primativo and Muxia Caminos in summer/fall 2016 using this book, Spanish military maps and the Confraternity of St. James guides. I bought the Kindle version and the hard copy. I carried the hardcopy.I'm sorry to say that this hard copy guide has problems and shortcomings. The Kindle version has even more problems.The maps are problematic:difficult to read -- not crispcut down to the smallest section of the map possible (no context offered despite lots of blank white page around; they printed only the portion along the trail; please examine a sample to understand this criticism, difficult to describe well)topographical information is paltry and difficult to interpretThe Kindle version maps are completely unintelligible.I used the hard copy book's maps in conjunction with Spanish military maps at 50:000, which I found to be most helpful. The one useful aspect of the maps is that they have the trail marked. I was able to transfer the trail from the difficult / no-context maps to my excellent / full-context maps. This was a useful contribution of the guide.Missing: A large map orienting the peregrina to the whole Camino. I wanted to know where I was in reference to the larger geography.Missing: Maps of cities and larger towns. If the limiting factor is space, they would have been more useful than the inadequate step-by-step text.The trails are very well marked so maps are not necessary if you stick to the Camino. Maps were very helpful for off-trail destinations (e.g., housing alternatives. The trails were very busy this year, close-by housing oversubscribed.)The information for Fisterre and Muxia is an afterthought.Whatever step-by-step is offered is inadequate and sometimes wrong.Sometimes:inconsistent with reality and/or the map on the same page;doesn't mention very significant challenges that should be known in advance;incomplete (go to the Confraternity publication for excellent step-by-step).Housing resources are difficult to keep up to date and the guide was in fact out of date. The online update was especially useful.I do not understand why stages are presented as albergue to albergue. Why not main square to main square, city hall to city hall, church to church? There's a strong bias on the Camino that lauds staying in albergues over staying in pensiones, hostels, hotels and private rooms. I don't understand the basis for this bias and feel it detracts from the goodwill among peregrin@s. While this book provides other housing information, it privileges albergues, and I feel this contributes significantly to the divisive bias.I also don't understand why material is presented in stages at all. Different peregrinos have different paces; the same peregrina will have different days, none of it necessarily consistent with the stages as offered. On average I hiked 25 k, but sometimes I hiked 12 k, 18 k and 30k, depending. I would have preferred just presenting the material, town by town.
Distances are not correct. Possibly calculated from point to point rather than walked.30km days turned into 43km!
Excellent and compact for the pilgrim. Would have loved some bigger fold-out maps,but really, this book has everything for the peregrino and helped be to be well informed in my choices. Also had good pointers about etiquette, so that one is well advised on comportment.
Bought the book, but never opened it. However, their app was a must especially if hiking solo. The zoom function didn't work well on my old iPhone 6 but that was probably because I haven't updated my iOS (still 9.3).
Got me to Santiago! The Camino del Norte information is better than the Camino Primitivo, where there are a few wrong directions. But just follow the yellow arrows and you'll be fine.Buen Camino!
